Attracting and retaining third-country national students and researchers

The new Students and Researchers Directive (EU) 2016/801 aims to make the European Union a world centre of excellence for studies and training, while favouring contacts between people as well as people’s mobility. In this context, our annual conference will offer an overview of this new directive by adopting a threefold perspective.
The first panel will focus on the importance of attracting and retaining third-country students and researchers as a way to tackle shortages in skills by providing an overview of the implementation and the rationale behind the new Students and Researchers Directive (EU) 2016/801.
The second panel will provide an insight into the strategies EU Member States use to enhance the attractiveness of their national higher education system, outlining possible challenges and good practices for the various Member States as well as for the universities that navigate between international student recruitment and immigration regulations.
The last panel of the conference will focus more on the Luxembourgish context by analysing the common practices within the University of Luxembourg and other actors.
