Literary and cultural theory
Literary and cultural theory is dedicated to the historical genesis of the concept of culture as a guiding concept in the humanities up to the present day, as well as the implications of cultural theory for literary studies. Linking up with our research area of interculturality, we focus here on the question of what meaning and validity can be possessed at present by concepts such as culture and cultural belonging, and what influence theories of culture and language, such as those of Herder, Nietzsche and Arendt, have on literary practice. Our seminars aim to impart knowledge of central positions in cultural and literary theory from the past and present, with students being invited to work out the different dimensions of culture, literature, and text, and to question existing paradigms.
