Media Studies
Besides media theory, the Institute’s profile in media studies primarily encompasses the areas ‘literary media’ and written mediality, from both a historical and didactic/pedagogical perspective. The starting-point in each case is the observation that the structure of media strongly determines cultural, social, and cognitive conditions. This has direct pedagogical implications for written media in particular – historical implications, for example, when one considers the effects of the inventions of printing; and current implications with regard to the effects of digital written media. Perspectives from media studies are systematically integrated into all study programmes offered by German studies.
