Registration is now open ! Conference program and abstracts are available !

The conference will take place at the University of Luxembourg and will be hosted by the Institute for Luxembourgish language and literature (IPSE) together with the Institute for Research on Multilingualism (ECCS).

Date: 29 to 31 March 2017 | Location: Campus Belval, Esch-sur-Alzette

On this site we will give you practical information concerning the workshop program, travel, accommodation and other things relevant for the workshop.

The workshop will focus on the theme of Movement and Immobilities. These concepts are highly pertinent in a world with so many people on the move, yet also often stuck in their movement. Both Luxembourg as a country and the Belval campus as workshop site directly reflect this dialectics of dynamics and  standstill. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg is one of the most ethnically diverse, culturally vivid and socio-econoically successful countries in Europe. It is a highly dynamic center of both international finance industry and EU policy. At the same time, many aspects of societal practice remain closely linked to conservative traditions, for example with regard to sociological structuring or discourses about national identity and language policy. The new Belval campus in Esch-sur-Alzette perfectly symbolises this disparity: Built on an old industrial site, a complete new quarter amalgamating science and commerce currently emerges right in between the old industrial architecture that is preserved to a large amount. So renewal and proctection are both constitutive elements of the new semiotic landscape Belval.

The workshop theme is also mirrored by our workshop logo, with automobility being both the most important means to personal mobility in Luxembourg and a major cause for immobility (daily traffic jams) due to the high amount of work-related commuting to Luxembourg city.

The workshop will consist of a series of parallel paper presentations (20 minutes each plus 10 minutes discussion time).

Abstracts of no more than 300 words should be submitted through our abstract submission system by 15 November 2016. Abstracts will be peer reviewed by an international scientific committee and our local organising comittee. Notification of acceptance will be sent to contributors by 15 January 2017. Registration for the conference will then open.

See the call for papers for more information about submissions.
