Research Projects
Interdisciplinary research collaborations
INCEEN catalyses interdisciplinary research collaborations in the areas of structural Engineering and environment such as fundamental and applied science and the technological developments. There are five research axes:
- Structure and building materials
- Building information modelling
- Infrastructural planning and management
- Energy consumption.
- Geodetic monitoring of infrastructure and the environment
Environmental challenges
Major environmental challenges based on notions of sustainability and life cycle analysis are reflected in the ultimate environmental goals of the institute: reduction of energy consumption of energy and natural resources and reduction of CO2 production. Further challenges include the improvement of our understanding of the environment and Earth system on regional to global scales which has the potential to affect decision makers.
Thus, the following three major fields are covered:
- Fundamental research with special regard of the civil Engineering context, like Numerical Analyses and Construction Materials Research.
- Research on Engineering Structures and Bridges considering material, design, construction and monitoring.
- Research in the infrastructural domain with water management and traffic, urban & spatial planning.
- Research in the environmental domain with three dimensional crustal monitoring and atmospheric remote sensing

The aim of this kind of projects is to bundle exiting expertise to strategic research subjects such as:
- Solving scientific questions and developing new scientific and technical methods for a sustainable multi-story, high-rise office building and thus, to advance the level of scientific understanding in the key-domains that are relevant to next generation office buildings.
- Promote modular construction with an additional approach to enforce circular economy.
