Physics of Advanced Materials

The Laboratory for the Physics of Advanced Materials (LPM) focuses on a combination of applied and fundamental research in Experimental Physics. The main research interest lies on the influence of microscopic structure and dynamics on macroscopic properties of materials.

Flow and thermal behavior of complex materials such as polymer compounds or granular media is a research topic which is not only of big interest in fundamental physics but has also eminent significance in industrial production processes. The LPM is very happy that several former students of the LPM have profited from collaborations with local industries and work now at local companies such as Goodyear, Husky, Michelman or Etimine. Most of these collaborations have been kindly supported by funding by the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR).
