Alfredo’s interests encompass the design and implementation of cryptographic protocols and the protection of user privacy. From June 2013 to December 2015, he was a postdoctoral researcher in the security group at IBM Research Zürich, where he worked for the EU FP7 FutureID project. From September 2008 to April 2013, he was a PhD candidate in the COSIC group at KU Leuven (Belgium) under the supervision of Prof. Bart Preneel. His PhD thesis focuses on the design of privacy-enhancing cryptographic protocols for e-commerce and billing applications. During his PhD, he was a research intern at Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) in Summer 2010 and in Summer 2011, where he conducted research on privacy-preserving billing protocols for smart meters under the supervision of Prof. George Danezis and of Markulf Kohlweiss. Prior to his PhD, he completed a Masters in Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Vigo (Spain). His master thesis focuses on public-key searchable encryption.

Alfredo will join the Applied Security and Information Assurance Group - APSIA headed by Prof. Peter Y.A. Ryan and will work on computer security, in particular in cryptography and design of cryptographic protocols.
