Recognition of prior experience and/or entry into a higher semester of a Master programme

In order to avoid duplication of individual study effort and to acknowledge previous academic or professional experience, candidates applying to a master of the University of Luxembourg can receive recognition for prior experience of relevance to their programme. As a result, a successful applicant can be exempted from study requirements and thereby, reduce the maximum duration available for the completion of studies.

The following experiences qualify for recognition:

  • Credits (ECTS or other) acquired during previous studies, and/or
  • Professional experience with a duration of at least 3 years full-time equivalent years (in a field of relevance to the programme).

A recognition of prior experience by the University without taking up studies at the University of Luxembourg is not possible as in order to receive a diploma from the University, a student needs to have obtained at least 60 ECTS credits through completion of courses followed at and offered by the University.

For more detailed information on the procedure of Recognition of prior experience, we advise you to consult our dedicated webpage.
