Anyone who is a national of a Member State of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) and nationals of the Swiss Confederation is considered a European applicant.

According to Art. 32 of the Universities Act, access to Master's degree programmes is possible for the following persons:
- Holder of a Bachelor's degree
- Holder of an educational qualification entered in the Register of Educational Qualifications of Luxembourg, Higher Education Department, pursuant to Article 68 of the Law of 28 October 2016 on the recognition of professional qualifications and corresponding to level 6 of the Luxembourg Qualifications Framework pursuant to Article 69 of the aforementioned Law.
All diplomas and/or transcripts must be translated by a sworn translator if they are in a language other than French, German or English.
1. European applicant

If you are a European candidate with a Bachelor's degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits according to the Bologna Process framework, awarded by a higher education institution located in another European Union Member State, in a Member State of the European Economic Area or in the Swiss Confederation, your degree is automatically recognised. If you are not yet in possession of your degree during the application period of the chosen study programme, you can submit your application online. In any case, you must apply no later than the deadline set by the study programme. If your application is accepted, you will receive a letter of conditional admission. As soon as you receive your diploma and transcript, you can upload these documents via your admissions portal to complete your application. A letter of final admission will then be sent to you together with the invoice for the enrolment fees in order to validate your final enrolment. |
2. European applicant

If you are a European applicant who does not hold a Bachelor's degree corresponding to at least 180 ECTS credits according to the Bologna process, issued by a higher education institution located in another European Union Member State, in a Member State of the European Economic Area or in the Swiss Confederation, but is recognised by the competent authorities of the State in question, and attesting to a higher education course recognised by the same competent authorities, you must obligatorily submit a request to register your diploma in the Register of Educational Qualifications, higher education section, with the Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche in Luxembourg. Procedure to register your educational qualification in the Register of Educational Qualifications. If you are not yet in possession of your degree during the application period of the chosen study programme, you can submit your application online. In all cases, you must apply no later than the deadline set by the study programme. If your application is accepted, you will receive a letter of conditional admission. As soon as you receive your diploma and transcript, you can upload these documents via your admissions portal to complete your application. A letter of final admission will then be sent to you together with the invoice for the enrolment fees in order to validate your final enrolment. The proof of registration of your educational qualification in the Register of Educational Qualifications must be submitted to us by the time of re-enrolment for the following semester at the latest. |
3. European applicant

Your degree must be registered in the Register of Educational Qualifications, department of Higher Education at the Ministère de l’Enseignement Supérieur et de la Recherche of Luxembourg. Procedure to register your educational qualification in the Register of Educational Qualifications. If you are not yet in possession of your degree (or certificate of achievement) and the proof of registration of your degree in the Register of Educational Qualifications during the application period of the chosen study programme, you can submit your application online. In any case, you must do so no later than the deadline set by the study programme. If your application is accepted, you will receive a letter of conditional admission. As soon as you receive your diploma and transcript (or certificate of achievement) and the proof of registration of your degree in the Register of Educational Qualifications, you can upload these documents via your admissions portal to complete your application. A letter of final admission will then be sent to you together with the invoice for the enrolment fees in order to validate your final enrolment. The proof of registration of your educational qualification in the Register of Educational Qualifications must be submitted to us by the time of re-enrolment for the following semester at the latest. |
All candidates must prove proficiency in the teaching languages of the chosen programme at the University of Luxembourg. The language skills required for each programme are listed in the dedicated programme web page according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

In order to avoid duplication of individual study effort and to acknowledge previous academic or professional experience, candidates applying to a master of the University of Luxembourg can receive recognition for prior experience of relevance to their programme. As a result, a successful applicant can be exempted from study requirements and thereby, reduce the maximum duration available for the completion of studies.
The following experiences qualify for recognition:
- Credits (ECTS or other) acquired during previous studies, and/or
- Professional experience with a duration of at least 3 years full-time equivalent years (in a field of relevance to the programme).
A recognition of prior experience by the University without taking up studies at the University of Luxembourg is not possible as in order to receive a diploma from the University, a student needs to have obtained at least 60 ECTS credits through completion of courses followed at and offered by the University.
