Student Delegation

University of Luxembourg Student Delegation

The mission of the Student Delegation is to represent all students of the University and to defend and promote their interests related to the teaching at and the governance of the University.

Representation

The representation of students in the central governing bodies of the University is the responsibility of the Student Delegation. Delegates are elected by four electoral colleges composed of the Bachelor and Master students of each of the three faculties and of all doctoral students for a mandate of two years. Each electoral college elects one representative per complete 500 students regularly enrolled in the respective Faculty or as doctoral student as of 1 October of the current academic year. Article 41 of the law of 27 June 2018 concerning the organisation of the University of Luxembourg confirms the mission of the Student Delegation in the governance structure of the University and defines the basic modalities of its election1.

Student delegates elect or serve as representatives on the following bodies and committees of the University:

  • Board of Governors: President of the delegation2
  • University Council: Six students elected by the delegation3
  • Commission des aménagements raisonnables: Two delegates4
  • Commission des litiges: Two delegates5

Responsibilities

  • informing students of decisions and activities concerning them
  • representing and defend the interests of the students
  • Liaising with University bodies and entities on behalf of students and informing them of all decisions and activities concerning them
  • contributing to student life and support student initiatives by participating in the running of the Office of Student Life

The Student Delegation coordinates its activities with Study Programme Representatives and liaises with the Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs through a joint Steering Committee.

[1] Article 41. Délégation des étudiants:

(1) La mission de la délégation des étudiants est de représenter les étudiants de l’Université et de défendre et promouvoir leurs intérêts liés aux questions relatives à l’enseignement et à la gestion de l’Université.

(2) La délégation des étudiants se compose de:

1° représentants des étudiants inscrits dans les programmes d’études menant au grade bachelor ou de master, élus par les étudiants des facultés respectives. Le nombre de représentants par faculté correspond à un délégué par tranche entière de cinq cents étudiants inscrits dans la faculté concernée;

2° représentants des doctorants, élus par les étudiants inscrits dans les programmes d’études menant au grade de docteur. Leur nombre correspond à un délégué par tranche entière de cinq cents étudiants inscrits dans les programmes d’études menant au grade de docteur.

La délégation des étudiants désigne parmi ses membres un président.

(3) Sont électeurs et éligibles les étudiants qui, au 1er octobre de l’année académique au cours de laquelle les élections sont organisées, sont inscrits régulièrement à l’Université.

(4) Les élections ont lieu tous les deux ans.

(5) La délégation des étudiants dispose d’une contribution financière annuelle provenant du budget global de l’Université. Elle remet annuellement un rapport d’activités et un décompte financier au recteur.

(6) Les modalités d’élection et le fonctionnement de la délégation des étudiants sont précisés par le règlement d’ordre intérieur de l’Université.

[2] Article 6, paragraph 4, of the law: Le président de la délégation du personnel telle que prévue au Code du travail et le président de la délégation des étudiants sont membres d’office au conseil de gouvernance et assistent aux séances du conseil de gouvernance avec voix délibérante. Leur affiliation au conseil de gouvernance prend fin au moment où ils cessent d’exercer les mandats respectivement de président de la délégation du personnel ou de président de la délégation des étudiants.
