Extra curricular activities and Zero-credit courses

Throughout the year there will be numerous extra-curricular activities: From a team-building and discovery of Luxembourg day and a Welcome reception at a local chateau, there will be many lunchtime seminars scattered throughout the year. In 2014/2015 we had, a.o., two CIOs discussing their investment philosophies and economic outlouks; two Relationship Managers talking about their ample experiences and anecdotes in the field; Two talks about the life-insurance business in Luxembourg, and seminars on Anti Money Laudering and Terrorist Financing, Venture Philanthropy, Microfinance, and Bank Corporate Governance, to name just a few.

In addition, we organized close to 20 company presentations and workshops on job-searching, CV writing and job interview.

The following zero-credit courses are offered, free of charge, during the year:

  • Financial applications in Excel
  • Bloomberg training sessions.

Collaboration with the CFA Institute and CFA Society Luxembourg

The Luxembourg School of Finance is a part of the University Recognition Programme of the CFA Institute due to the substantial overlap between the course material and CFA program’s Body of Knowledge. A tangible benefit of the collaboration are five CFA scholarships.

Every year a student team of the LSF participate in the CFA Institute Research Challenge. In addition, the LSF hosts several events of the Luxembourg CFA society, to which students are invited. Last year we had a seminar on Risk Management and Contingent Convertible bonds. On another hand, we collaborate with Top Finance institute who offers CFA Level-I support classes. Seven of our students can benefit from a 25% discount.

May 2014 saw the first edition of the  LSF-Challenge, the worlds’ first Wealth Management Case Study Competition.
The LSF Challenge offers students the opportunity to work on a real-life case, focusing on investment advisory for a HNW clients. Students are exposed to topics such as portfolio management, estate planning, alternative investments, asset structuring, and philanthropy, amongst others. During two days they are advised by industry experts, to prepare their final presentation to a jury of experts. The event was organised by the MWM students, and benefited from generous sponsorships from banks and institutions. The prize money was €5000.
