Bachelor en Cultures Européennes - Germanistik

Motivation Letter

The motivation letter is a key piece of your application. It allows you to specify why you are interested in joining our programme and think about what you expect out of the studies you are about to undertake. For us, your letter allows us to gauge your suitability for our programme.

Your motivation letter must respond to the following questions:

  1. Why did you decide to pursue studies in Germanistik? Try to orient yourself by referring to your journey through secondary school. Which texts and authors particularly interested you and why? Was there anything special about studying German in school? Perhaps someone in your social circle influenced you? If there were any other aspects that made you interested in this programme, please let us know.
  2. What are your expectations? Try to line up your personal interests with the classes we offer in our programme. Which aspects of Germanistik interest you the most: literature, linguistics, language history, medieval studies?
  3. What interests you the most in relation to the Bachelor en Cultures Européennes (BCE)? The BCE is an interdisciplinary programme. You will not only frequent Germanistik classes but also branch out into other subjects such as Philosophy or History. What are you expectations concerning this part of your studies?

Attention! Remember to:

  • please indicate your full name and Personal Identifier (number) issued by the University of Luxembourg during your online application.
  • make sure you check your motivation letter for language errors before you submit it. An eloquent and proofread level of German is expected.
  • make sure your motivation letter is between 600 and 750 words. Letters that exceed this limit will be disqualified.
