Motivation letter

The motivation letter plays an important role in your application. It allows you to tell us why you want to take our programme and also helps us assess your suitability.

Your motivation letter must respond to the following questions:

  1. Why do you want to study history? Is there a particular topic you already had the opportunity to deepen your knowledge in?
  2. Why do you want to pursue your studies at the University of Luxembourg?
  3. What interests you the most in relation to the Bachelor en Cultures Européennes (BCE)?

Please note that the motivation letter is a vital component of your application. It is thus strongly suggested to check your letter for language and content errors before submitting. The motivation letter needs to be written bilingually, both in French and German as both languages are used to teach by our professors. As such, at least one of the three questions needs to be answered in French or in German. This way you will demonstrate your linguistic competences in both languages.

Attention! Remember to:

  • please indicate your full name and Personal Identifier (number) issued by the University of Luxembourg during your online application.
  • make sure you check your motivation letter for language errors before you submit it.
  • make sure your motivation letter is between 600 and 750 words. Letters that exceed this limit will be disqualified.
