In the course of the four semesters of study, you will attend events at the four universities in Porto, Palermo, Luxembourg and Mainz on the three overarching module topics of culture and language, literature and employability, and skills acquisition.

In the first semester in Porto, for example, an introduction to German culture in a European context is held alongside courses on the theories and methods of the subject and on the history of material and motifs. In addition, a lecture series offers insights into the professional fields of Germanists and a German language course ensures a common language starting level for all students (C1 speakers and native speakers acquire basic knowledge of Portuguese as a substitute).

In the second semester in Luxembourg, these topics are deepened and students specifically deal with sub-aspects such as interculturality in the pre-modern era and multilingualism. Within the framework of an internship or a 'practical seminar', you will gain practical insights into possible career opportunities.

In Mainz, in addition to subject-specific events, a tutorial on academic writing, various interdisciplinary events and a project seminar are offered in which you can test your skills in developing a publicly presented project.

In the fourth semester, your Master's thesis will be accompanied in a colloquium in Palermo, as well as by further tutorial support on academic work and writing.

The course is complemented by a mentoring programme in which mentors from the professional world will assist as experienced discussion partners for you in all semesters.
