The cross-border and multilingual Master's degree "Theatre Studies and Interculturality" offers a special opportunity for theatre studies from an intercultural perspective. The Master cooperates with the University of Trier and students attend courses at both universities.

Intercultural Diversity

Internationality, multilingualism and intercultural constellations not only characterise the country but also Luxembourg's theatre landscape.

Different languages gather here as naturally as Anglo-Saxon, German, French and Luxembourgish theatre traditions.

This cultural diversity is be expanded via the partner University of Trier (in the future also the Université de Liège, the Université de Lorraine and Saarland University). In this way, national studies and academic cultures are also connected in an innovative way. The students get to know different research traditions and acquire the ability to reflect on them interculturally.

The courses of the multilingual programme degree are conducted in German and occasionally in French and English.

Individual studies, personal support

In the modules, there is an in-depth examination of theatre studies and the relationship between theatre and interculturality; the theoretical and practical seminars deal with questions on intercultural aesthetics, forms and concepts of theatre, theatre theory, theatre and foreignness, and cultural management.

Further information on the curriculum

The academic and theoretical components of this programme are complemented by the broad, theatre-specific range of subjects offered by numerous university partners to enable a variety of perspectives on theatre and its related arts. In the practical seminars, intercultural theatre work can be tested independently and individual focal points can be set, for example, in the artistic or organisational field.
