Presentation

In addition to providing knowledge in the fundamental fields of mathematics, the Bachelor in Mathematics covers concepts in closely linked disciplines, such as physics, computer science, or didactics of mathematics.

The Bachelor in Mathematics is managed by the Department of Mathematics. Courses are taught by internationally recognised specialists in the field, who to explain to students how mathematical objects continue to play a major role in cutting-edge, and often interdisciplinary, research.

Strengths

Innovative teaching

The Bachelor in Mathematics offers essential courses – lectures and tutorials – for training in mathematics. In addition, many innovative initiatives take advantage of the digital tools, such as an online exercise system set up under Moodle for first-year students, or the opportunity for students to take part in computational mathematics research projects in the frame of the Experimental Mathematics Lab.

Many optional courses

Each semester is divided into modules, containing either compulsory or optional courses. Compulsory courses are essential for learning modern mathematics and include basic mathematics such as algebra, analysis, geometry, probability, and statistics. Optional courses meet the specific needs of students, by giving them the possibility to deepen their knowledge in didactics, computer science, interdisciplinary culture and languages. The fifth semester is spent abroad, as a mobility semester. Students must validate 30 bachelor ECTS at a partner university. This broadens their curriculum and experience
