University of Luxembourg Incubator

Acquire entrepreneurial skills and create your start-up!

The requirements for university graduates who enter the labour market are constantly rising. To prepare our students best for this increasingly difficult challenge, the University of Luxembourg has created the University of Luxembourg Incubator: a place dedicated to provide career relevant skills that will open new career perspectives.

All students registered at the University of Luxembourg, regardless of their level (Bachelor, Master, Doctorate/PhD) or field of studies are welcome to benefit from the initiatives provided by the Incubator on the Belval Campus. We also encourage the participation of the University employees.

Tailor-made events to unlock imagination and foster entrepreneurial thinking

The events hosted at the Incubator inform participants on what it takes to be successful in their professional life – whether using their skills to drive the business of established companies as “intrapreneurs”, or to develop their own business ideas as entrepreneurs. The versatile range of events includes:

Students at the University of Luxembourg Incubator

  • Workshops: How to convincingly and confidently present your ideas, how to network, how to get funding for your start-up project, how to make a business out of your idea or doctoral research. All workshops have a collaborative, hands-on character, allowing participants to train their team working skills.
  • Inspirational talks and round tables: First-hand insights are key to making the right choices in your professional life and so are exchanges with experts. The Incubator invites local and international speakers, delighted to exchange with participants and to provide them with a realistic picture of business and entrepreneurship.
  • Networking: Building a sound professional network today is essential to fulfilling your professional ambitions – be it finding the right job or the right partners to make a business project move forward. Networking opportunities are, thus, always an integral part of events hosted at the Incubator.

Discover the first student start-up projects sparked by the Incubator’s flagship event: the Ideation Camp

Following the first edition of the Ideation Camp, a 72 hours hands-on entrepreneurship workshop, two groups of students from the University competed in and won a startup competition at the national level as evidence of the value of our training.

Twice a year, the Ideation Camp turns the Incubator into a stronghold of idea generation. In interdisciplinary and multinational teams, the participants work on innovative business ideas, supported by dedicated mentors from the Luxembourgish entrepreneurship ecosystem as well as industry experts. On the final day of the camp, the ideas are presented to a versatile jury, composed of members of the Rectorate of the University, investors and entrepreneurs.

The second edition of the Ideation Camp, February 2018, involved more than 32 participants working on eight inspired projects. It was supported by more than 30 mentors from the entrepreneurship ecosystem. Share the elation of the winners of the second edition of this unique workshop experience:

Some of the young entrepreneurs who were inspired by their Ideation Camp experiences have gone on to create their own start-ups and are now incubated at the University of Luxembourg.

A place to breed ideas and give them wings for their take off on the Luxembourgish market

Besides hosting events, the Incubator also offers a range of services to start-ups that are supported by members of the University of Luxembourg. The package for the start-ups incubated on Belval Campus comprises:

  • Office space;
  • Access to the full infrastructure at the Incubator building;
  • Access to the greater University infrastructure;
  • Administrative support;
  • Mentoring, i.e. consultancy with experienced entrepreneurs and professional experts;
  • Access to a widespread business network inside Luxembourg and even beyond the national borders;
  • Visibility through the University of Luxembourg media channels; and
  • Visibility via showcases at other events organised by the Incubator.

Unlike existing incubators in Luxembourg, the incubator of the University is open to start-ups from all industry branches, be it FinTech, BioTech, Horeca or EduTech. It offers its start-ups a first doorway to the Luxembourgish entrepreneurial ecosystem and full support throughout their maturation process.

Thanks to a close collaboration of the University of Luxembourg Incubator with specialised business incubators, its start-ups can incubate outside the University once having met the specific requirements of the respective incubators related to their industry.

Students and employees alike are welcome to meet the Incubator Team and discuss their start-up ideas at any time.

The University of Luxembourg Incubator: a contribution to the socio-economic growth of Luxembourg

Innovative ideas and the contagious enthusiasm to bring them to life drive our start-up nation. Where are these conditions more tangible than in a university environment?

The University of Luxembourg has been the cradle for several successful start-ups that have already emerged from research projects. To support the “Startup Nation” Luxembourg, the University has been funded to build on this foundation with the goal of developing the Innovation and Leadership potential of its students and employees.

The Incubator kicked off in September 2017, thanks to funding provided by the Fonds National de la Recherche Luxembourg and Fondation Veuve Emile Metz-Tesch.
