Financial Advice and Support

Student Support Fund / Hardship Fund

The Hardship Fund of the University of Luxembourg is part of the university initiative aimed at providing financial support to students to enable them to develop their potential at the University. The purpose of the Hardship Fund is to relieve a financial burden that could negatively impact the participation of a student at the University. The grant is non-repayable and is awarded to students who experience difficulties resulting from persistent financial problems or unforeseen and essential exceptional costs. Each request is assessed individually according to fixed criteria and grants are made on the basis of the evidence provided. There is no right to the Hardship Fund grant and they are only granted in the event of extreme difficulties. Students must demonstrate that they have exhausted all other income opportunities and are encouraged to seek long-term alternatives, as a grant is not guaranteed.

Who can submit a dossier?

To qualify for a grant from the Hardship Fund of the University of Luxembourg, you must meet certain conditions. The allocation of this financial support is based on the unique personal and social situation of the applicant. These conditions are as follows:

  • be enrolled in a Bachelor or Master program at the University of Luxembourg or
  • be registered as a self-funded doctoral student at the University of Luxembourg and
  • not be qualified for other financial aid from the Luxembourg state.

If you are a self-funded student, you are expected to have made adequate and realistic provisions at the start of your studies to cover your registration and daily costs. In the event that you have clearly not done this, a grant from the Hardship Fund will not be awarded.
