The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg launched a new academic cooperation in the field of economics with the prestigious Higher School of Economics (HSE) - National Research University, in Moscow.

This is a new step forward in an already successful partnership between the two Universities; a partnership which so far has concentrated in the field of law. Since 2007 over 12 HSE law students have taken advantage of the opportunity and have continued their legal studies at the University of Luxembourg pursuing a Master’s in European Law and even a PhD.

One of the main features of the new collaboration foresees student exchanges, with an emphasis on Master’s students in the area of Economics and Finance. A select number of top Russian students will be chosen every year to pursue their second year of study in Luxembourg and receive a diploma from the University of Luxembourg’s Master’s programme in Economics and Finance. Another element of the collaboration is the possibility for reciprocal research and teaching visits from faculty members and researchers.

Interest in enhancing the cooperation has been high, especially following positive feedback from law students of the Luxembourg-Russia exchange. According to the Russian partners, who provided information on the overall experience of HSE alumni who studied in Luxembourg, all students expressed with satisfaction that studying at the University of Luxembourg gave them a competitive edge in the job market and improved their language skills in French and English. Currently most are employed in international companies, while some carry on with their academic studies.

For Luxembourg students, studying for a semester in Moscow will be a great bonus to their CV. Being emerged in a competitive and high calibre academic environment, while living in one of the most vibrant and global capitals in the world like Moscow, will be a unique opportunity.

To promote such opportunities for travel beyond the borders of Europe, the University of Luxembourg hosts annual Global Exchange Programme meetings for students in the beginning of the academic year. “The Faculty is committed to offering students a good balance of strong academic skills as well as useful experiences in training and mobility abroad, which will make them competitive in their future studies and professional careers” says Prof. Stefan Braum, Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance at the University of Luxembourg.
