Welcome to the academic year 2019/2020! The Rentrée Académique officially opens the new semester. It is also the occasion to confer “Teaching Awards” to outstanding teachers. At the same time, it is an opportunity to reflect on key accomplishments of the University in the past twelve months as well as its vision for the future.

“We firmly believe that the university of the 21st century must pay attention to its environment and contribute to solving important social challenges,” rector Prof. Stéphane Pallage stated. “It is important that the university is involved in these debates since universities occupy a position that is interdisciplinary, independent and free from conflict of interests,” he continues.

Prof. Pallage also highlighted the efforts that were undertaken to improve life on campus: “A first Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed. Satisfaction surveys were introduced. The quality of life on campus is extremely important for the overall quality of a university. Gender balance remains an important issue, which we are determined to address. The gender equality officer has launched an interesting audit, which will lead to a gender policy and an action plan. I am particularly happy to see, for the first time in the University’s history, a perfect gender balance in the rectorate team.”
