Graduation Week 2018: congratulations to all our graduates!

The University of Luxembourg is celebrating its “Graduation Week”. In a series of events, Bachelor, Master, and doctoral students receive their diploma.

Overall, 637 Bachelor and 589 Master students as well as 153 doctoral students graduated this year from the University of Luxembourg.

Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication

At the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC), 195 graduates received their diplomas on 11 December 2018. The faculty conferred degrees to 95 bachelor and 100 master students in Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science and Life Sciences. During the ceremony, eight students were awarded special prizes for their outstanding academic results. In particular this year, two students in mathematics will be honoured for their excellent average grade and exceptional thesis: Tara Trauthwein and Pietro Sgobba.

Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance

On 12 December, the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance conferred a total of 259 degrees to graduates from its three Bachelor programmes in law, applied management, and economics and management.

On the same day, 297 Master graduates celebrated the successful completion of their degrees in Accounting and Audit, Economics and Finance, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Banking and Finance, Wealth Management, and the Faculty’s six Master of Laws (LL.M.) specialisations.

In addition, the first graduating class of the Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management received their diplomas. The programme was launched in 2017 in cooperation with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

Thanks to the generous support of the Bank of China, Barreau de Luxembourg, Economist Club Luxembourg, Fondation du Mérite Européen, INVESTAS asbl, Pictet & Cie (Europe) and Mr Josef Azizi, the best Master graduates from a range of disciplines were awarded special prizes in recognition of outstanding achievement.

Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education

The graduation ceremonies of the Faculty of Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education took place on 13 December, when 283 students graduated from four Bachelor programmes in addition to 192 students graduating in 20 Master and lifelong learning programmes in Humanities, Social Sciences, Psychology, and Teaching and Education.

Laura Gaul received the “European Charlemagne Youth Prize” for Best Master thesis in European Contemporary History, the “Translating Cultures Prize” went to Gabriel Cosme Rivera and Ivana Kuriackova graduating from the Master in Learning and Communication in Multilingual and Multicultural contexts. The “Prix de la Fondation du Mérite Européen » has been awarded to Bled Bekteshi for his Master thesis “EU Migration Controls in the Mediterranean – Do EU Measures Contribute to Migrant Vulnerability?”

Prix Germain Dondelinger

The “Prix Germain Dondelinger” awarded by the Amis de l’Université du Luxembourg to the best students from each Faculty will this year be given to Max Zettl (Master in Psychology: Psychological Intervention), Jérôme Schank, (Master in Logistics and Supply Chain Management) and Pietro Sgobba (Master in Mathematics).
