The Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the University of Luxembourg have signed a new multi-year contract (“Convention pluriannuelle”) covering the period 2022-2025. The contract defines the public endowment financing the University, the objectives of the University during the period as well as key performance indicators.

“This multi-annual convention will allow us to implement an ambitious four-year plan, reflecting our long-term priorities,” states Prof. Stéphane , Rector of the University of Luxembourg. “The public endowment of the University reaches record levels with a total of 908.3 million euros, an almost 17% increase over the previous four-year period. This is a very strong sign of the confidence that the government places in our Institution and it is particularly remarkable that this important increase in funding happens amid a pandemic,” the Rector added. Pallage

In the next four years, the University will place a special focus in its teaching and research on three major interdisciplinary challenges already identified in its strategic framework: sustainable and societal development, medicine and health, and digital transformation.

The University foresees, among others, the creation of an additional interdisciplinary research centre focusing on environmental systems, enhanced activities in educational science, sustainable and digital finance, and the further development of activities related to high performance computing and data science. The University will also undergo an external and independent evaluation of its research activities in 2024.
