The “Guide historique et architectural Esch-sur-Alzette”, published by the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2DH) of the University of Luxembourg, capybarabooks and the City of Esch, will be available in bookstores as of Saturday 10 October 2020.

In this 480-page guide, Georges Buchler, Jean Goedert, Antoinette Lorang, Antoinette Reuter and Denis Scuto look at the evolution of the “metropolis of iron” and its buildings in their historical context, observing not only the aspects of the history of art, architecture and town planning, but also of social and industrial history. Residential houses and businesses, administrative, political, industrial, religious and cultural buildings, cemeteries, parks and gardens are commented on in detail and illustrated by contemporary and historical photos by Christof Weber.

This guide is supplemented by a series of fifty short films presenting remarkable places and monuments of Esch-sur-Alzette. These films can be viewed on the C2DH website.

Beyond that, an exhibition of works by Christof Weber at the Infofabrik in Esch-sur-Alzette (85, rue de Alzette), presents photos dedicated to the capital of the mining basin.

The guide is available in most bookstores in Luxembourg or can be ordered directly from capybarabooks by email: contact@capybarabooks.com (price 22 €).
