On 6 November 2019, the University of Luxembourg hosted the Study Abroad Day on Belval Campus. The event helps students prepare for their mandatory exchange semester at a university outside of Luxembourg.

Some 800 students had the opportunity to connect with former and current exchange students and discover partner universities worldwide. Info sessions presented the University’s different mobility programmes while a series of workshops offered useful skills to prepare for an enriching global experience.

The University of Luxembourg is highly international in character. It ranked No. 1 worldwide in the Times Higher Education “international outlook” Rankings 2020. Studying one semester abroad is compulsory for all Bachelor’s students. To promote student mobility and boost global experience opportunities, the University has signed more than 100 agreements regarding student exchanges and research and teaching cooperations.

The University offers exchange programmes with international universities in Europe, and also encourages students to consider options further afield. Participating partner universities on the Study Abroad Day include the University of Ottawa, Miami University, Kyoto University and Innopolis University.

“By living and studying abroad you are confronted with other cultures. Students are inevitably pushed to question and assess their personal choices, ways of thinking and of approaching their studies. The Study Abroad Day helps them decide where they want to go and shows them how they can prepare,” says Sylvain St-Amand, International Relations Office Team Leader at the University of Luxembourg.
