The University receives its own stamp

In recognition of the significance of the University of Luxembourg to the Grand Duchy and to commemorate the opening of the Belval Campus, POST Luxembourg has issued a new, limited edition stamp titled "The University on Belval Campus". This special stamp was published on 3 March 2016 and officially presented to the University by the CEO of POST Luxembourg on the issue date.
The entire process of producing a new stamp at the POST takes almost two years. All requests are submitted to the Philatelic Committee at least 1.5 years before the expected issuing year. This Committee analyses every single request before either accepting or rejecting it. The criteria relating to achievements of national importance were met by the University. At a small ceremony, Claude Strasser, CEO of POST Luxembourg, handed over the first special edition stamp to Alfred Funk, the University’s director of administration. This was a significant occasion for both POST Luxembourg and for the University, as it represented the culmination of an unique joint project. A first time for two partners! For the first time in its history, POST Luxembourg employed an innovative high resolution offset printing technique: the stamp was printed on silver foil. This technique was chosen essentially to enhance the design of the stamp, providing an almost holographic/3D effect. The unique design of the stamp however, was developed within the University, by Danièle Stoffel-Adam, graphic designer in the Communications Department. The basis for her design was provided by a photo of the Maison du Savoir at Belval Campus, shot by Christian Aschman. Aschman is a renowned Luxembourg photographer, who has previously partnered with POST Luxembourg. The University stamp is now available for purchase in all POST offices for a limited period of time. It can also be purchased online very easily. Delivery is free. POST Luxembourg/University partnershipPOST Luxembourg is also an important research partner at the University: recently it has taken a share in the company founded by scientists of the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) of the University of Luxembourg. This new enterprise, Information Technology for Translational Medicine (ITTM S.A.), specialises in the preparation and analysis of data from clinical trials. - - -
