Running, but not only: The University’s team has run this year at the ING Night Marathon to defend freedom of speech by supporting Reporters without Borders.

Each year the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF) at the University of Luxembourg supports a different association, for which they collect donations. The association chosen this year,Reporters without Borders, represents an important symbol for the FDEF.

Indeed, following the tragic terrorist attacks of this year, the academic team of the Faculty rallied to assert its position as defender of the fundamental freedoms, and especially, freedom of speech. Apart from supporting the association for the ING Night Marathon, the professors have also organised an open debate earlier this semester in order to engage the audience in a better understanding of the incurred dangers for freedom of speech today.

”Hard training, team-building and a great race” these are the words behind the fourth participation of the FDEF teams at the ING Night Marathon Luxembourg on Saturday 29 May. More than 100 professors, students and administrative staff enrolled this year, be it for the marathon, half marathon or team run, and they have been training for months, in preparation of the race.

Professor Elise Poillot, Course Director of the Master in European Private Law, is at the origin of the Faculty’s participation to the ING Night Marathon. She launched the idea of having teams running under the colours of the Faculty and it was an immediate success. Since 2012, she manages to gather over 100 professors, administrative staff and students to run with her each year.
