On 28 November, the first Indonesian Day was held at the University of Luxembourg in cooperation with the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Brussels. On this occasion, students and staff could learn all about Indonesia and its culture. The event was opened by H.E. Arif Havas Oegroseno, Ambassador of Indonesia to Belgium, the European Union and Luxembourg, who spoke about recent political and economic developments in Indonesia. After this official part, students and staff had the opportunity to discover many different aspects of the Indonesian culture. Right after the speech, they had the opportunity to play the Anklung, a traditional Indonesian instrument made of bamboo tubes. Moreover, they could learn to prepare Indonesian cakes and Cassava chips, get to know the basics of the Indonesian language “Bahasa Indonesia”, discover Indonesian music and dance and practice Indonesian martial arts (see photos). The day ended with a movie session in the evening, where the award-winning Indonesian film Laskar Pelangi was shown.
