POST Luxembourg has donated 10,000 euros to the University of Luxembourg, to support students who find themselves in a difficult financial situation. This sum results from the sale of special “COVID-19” stamps by POST Philately in 2020. Pierre Zimmer, Deputy Managing Director of POST handed the check to the Vice-rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Catherine Léglu.

The special ‘COVID-19’ stamps edition was produced following a drawing contest for children aged 8 to 12 with the theme “Draw us a moment you lived during lockdown.” POST Luxembourg honored the contributions of the 8 winners with this special edition.

Part of the sale of this stamp issue is used to support students who have lost their student jobs due to the health crisis or who find themselves in a financially precarious situation. “This project was selected because it fits perfectly into POST Luxembourg’s CSR strategy. The small masterpieces were unexpectedly successful, which allowed us to raise a handsome sum”, explains Emile Espen, head of POST Philately.

More than a year after the first COVID-19 diagnosis in the Grand Duchy, numerous Luxembourgish and foreign students at the University of Luxembourg are still suffering from financial consequences of the pandemic and the reduction in economic activity. Although the Hardship Fund, as well as various financial support packages provided by the University, provide significant assistance to students, some of them still find themselves in dire financial straits.
